I FINALLY got my Carol's Daughter products in the mail. MY hair feels sooooo good. Oh my goodness! It's so soft and shiny, with volume and body. I love my hair right now. I LOVE my hair right now
This post is super short because I SHOULD be packing and getting ready to leave my house for Rio! I just want to say I'm super excited and I can't wait to see what Rio de Janeiro holds in store for me. Pray that my camera doesn't die? *crosses fingers*
I also was able to Skype chat for only a brief moment with my heroine/rolemodel/favorite spoken word poet Staceyann Chin last night. I watched her perform live at my school via Skype and it was amazing. To me, the best part was hearing her perform "All Oppression is Connected." That poem is SO relevant at Scripps, where both privilege and wealth exists in massive amounts. It was the right time for that poem to be spoken. I hope people felt her words. I also felt good that my work in lobbying to bring her to Scripps was acknowledged. I didn't need any credit, but the nods of approval from my friends to know that I pushed for her to come in the Spring of last year, but successfully got her to come in the Fall, even when I knew I wasn't going to be there to see it, made me feel so good. I wasn't looking for anyone to announce my name or even thank me; I was just happy to see that she came. And I got to say Hi to her on Skype and she told me that she enjoyed Scripps College and that perhaps, because we're doing the same work, in the same circles, we would meet again.
I'll hold you to that one, Staceyann.
All in all folks, what a wonderful way to begin my weekend.
Tchau tchau gente!
