Unlike Luna, I'm a little more suspicious of Tyra's intentions with Natural Hair Day. Natural Hair Day doesn't mean "going natural" or "going weave free," it means, for one episode, she's NOT going to wear a weave. So, people are going to turn in to see "what's really under there" which means more views for Tyra's talk show.
Her good hair/bad hair episode was probably her most discussed and most watched episode of The Tyra Show-people posted youtube responses, blog posts and every natural hair board was exploding with questions/opinions/complaints about the people she choose (the woman who relaxed her 3 year old's hair, the one with "white girl flow," with girl who only felt pretty with her Hannah Montana wig, etc) and it's attitude towards these women.
Natural Hair Day, not Week, not Month, not Year, feels like a way to bring back the ratings and discussions that her previous hair episode had. I've never seen or heard her show any natural hair love in America's Next Top Model or The Tyra Bank's Show or at any point in her modeling career until that episode, so even her positive statements felt "fake" because she doesn't follow any of her own advice.
Yes, Natural Hair Day might mark the beginning of a natural journey for this supermodel. And if it does, I will full support her decision and share the amazing pictures you know she could take with a fierce wash and go or twist out.
But until then, I'm not doing back flips or giving out cool points.
