the big chop chop

Just so y'all know, in approximately 5 days, I will be cutting off more than 3 inches of my hair as a final step in my transition back to naturalllle. As evidenced by my last post, I am scared as hell, but I've found a way to cope. I've been reading natural hair sites and sista stories to help keep myself encouraged. Here I've discovered a nice little website called "The Coil Review." Below is an article called "5 Steps to Stay Put" by Anu Prestonia of Khamit Kinks Salon.

5 Steps to Stay Put

Anu Prestonia’s 5 Steps to Stay Put:

#1 The first step is to be committed to your decision to make the journey to your ultimate destination--your natural hair. It is a state of mind and awareness that requires you to feed your mind with thoughts, images and conversation that support your decision.

#2 If possible, surround yourself with those who have already made the transition and ask them to be your support. Avoid conversations about natural hair with nay-sayers—those who don't support your decision to go natural. Instead, visit hip and encouraging websites like The Coil Review for ideas, information, and confirmation of the fact that your decision is one of integrity and value.

#3 Consult with a natural hair care provider on different options for your hair. This is applicable to all cases, but especially so if your hair has been damaged.
